The Commandant of Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy, Captain (N) Prof DSc Boyan Mednikarov, took part in the work of the extraordinary Executive Board of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU), convened on 16 and 17 February 2016 in Tokyo, Japan
The Board commenced its work on 16 February 2016 with an address by the current Chair of the organization, Prof Glenn Blackwood of the University of Newfoundland, Canada. All the participants in the meeting presented their institutions. This was followed by a ceremony for the transfer of the chairmanship to the newly elected IAMU Chair, Prof Neil Bose of the Australian Maritime College.
The Board continued with the distribution of the tasks for the participants on the different committees:
- the Committee for planning and policy forming;
- The Committee for academic programmes and projects;
- The Committee for contacts with international organizations and the industry;
- the Finance Committee.
It was decided that Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy take part in the work of the Finance Committee of the organization within the current term of IAMU’s Executive Board (until April 2018), and after April 2017, as the host of the 18th General Assembly of IAMU, be involved in the Committee for academic programmes and projects as well.
In addition, the establishment of some new workgroups was discussed:
- For scientific projects;
- For academic publications;
- For the quality of preparation onboard the training ships.
Furthermore, there were discussions on some new projects related to the development of IAMU and the enhancement of its capacity.
