On 2 June 2017 Captain Associate Prof. Nikolay Velikov took part in the ceremony celebrating 300 years since the establishment of Escuela Naval Militar, the naval academy of the Kingdom of Spain in Pontevedra.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the naval academies of Germany, Italy, Norway, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, UK and USA. It started with His Majesty Felipe VI, the King of Spain, receiving the reports. The official tribune also had the Minister of Defence, Ms Maria Dolores Cospedal, and the Commander of the Navy. A parade by the Royal Navy followed, with the hosts showcasing some of their vessels and evolutions.
On 3 June 2017 was a cultural programme which presented the attendees with the opportunity to visit Santiago de Compostela and to take part in a charitable catholic mass in the local St Jacob cathedral.
At the end of the celebrations Captain Velikov was given the official plaque of Escuela Naval Militar.
