The Navigation Department successfully performs its educational functions of training highly qualified staff in the speciality Navigation for the Merchant Marine and for the Navy of the Republic of Bulgaria as well in the speciality River Shipping for the River Fleet. The quality of training meets the state requirements and the criteria for the development of maritime nations set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Danube Commission. Both specialities are accredited. The department also trains PhD students in the speciality Ship Management and Navigation which is also accredited. In 2014 we introduced a new speciality – Shipping. Along with the Bulgarian students and cadets the department also trains navigators from Vietnam, Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Romania, Albania, India, etc. Their training is in English. To fulfil its mission the department maintains the necessary highly qualified staff of lecturers.
