On 04 April 2017 at the firing range in Divdyadovo, a residential area in the town of Shumen, Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy trainees had a class in firearms practice. The military cadets from the Cadet Training Battalion and the recruits from the Basic Military Training course for newly enlisted personnel had a live firing exercise with Kalashnikov rifles.

Under the guidance of the instructor team the trainees acquired skills for safe weapons handling and marksmanship at long and close range.

The live firing exercise was followed by physical fitness tests for the cadets. The teams went head to head in the following disciplines: maximum sit-ups for 1 minute, 10×10 m shuttle run, 1000 m cross-country, and 100 m swim.
