On 9 January 2017 we marked the 136th anniversary of the establishment of the first technical education institution in the country.
It was the forerunner of Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy, its successor. At 11.30 a.m. in front of the central building of the Academy, this historical date was honoured in the presence of many guests, including: rear Admiral Mitko Petev – Commander of the Navy of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr PEycho Peychev – Deputy Mayor of Varna Municipality, Mr Todor Balabanov – Speaker of the City Council of Varna, зам.-кмет на Община Варна, the Rev. Zhivko Georgiev and the V. Rev. Tsvetan Florov from the Holy Metopolitanate of Varna and Veliki Preslav, Commander Marko Fausto – representative of the Navy of Italy in Varna, district mayors, representatives of maritime companies and organisations, rectors of higher education institutions, public figures, alumni and friends of the Naval Academy.
The celebration started with a speech by the rector of Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy – Commodore Prof. DSc Boyan Mednikarov, who highlighted some facts and milestones from the history of the Academy, its present with active international activities and increasing prestige, with the dozens of its earned international certificates and accreditations, and with the well-established authority of the Academy as leader of naval higher education in the country and on the Balkans. Rear Admiral Mitko Petev then offered his congratulations on the occasion of the holiday of the Academy. His speech was followed by a reading of orders by the Minister of Defence of the republic of Bulgaria and by the Rector of the Naval Academy for the awarding of military personnel and civilian employees with regard to the 136th anniversary. The ceremony finished with the laying of flowers at the Lecturer’s Alley and of wreaths at the monument of the poet Nikola Vaptsarov on campus.
After its end, a new training centre was inaugurated with a clerical blessing at the Department of Ship and Port Operations. The ribbon was cut by Rear Admiral Miko Petev and Mr Peycho Peychev.
