On 30 January 2017, the Rector of Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy, Flotilla Admiral Prof. DSc Boyan Mednikarov, met with Gen. Khaled Abdullah, Commander Kuwait Naval Force.

The reason for their meeting was that Gen. Abdullah had expressed his wish to visit Bulgaria and particularly Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy in order to gain insight into the possibilities for the education of Kuwaiti cadets for the needs of the Kuwait Naval Force.

During the meeting, the emphasis of the presented information was on the capabilities of Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy to educate cadets for the needs of Kuwait Naval Force, as well as the requirements set to the aspiring foreign cadets, and namely completed secondary education, mental and medical fitness, physical fitness, and proficiency in English. After the discussion, it was shared that in principle Kuwait would like to enroll 10 cadets for the academic year of 2017/2018. The final decision on the matter will be taken after a visit of a delegation from Kuwait at Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy in May 2017.
